2008 Photo of the Year

Hopperesque : National Gallery of Art
2008 Photo of the Year

As part of the City Daily Photo community, this month's theme is Photo of the Year. This was a fun year for me and my photography. I had a number of photos that turned out well, but the photo above received the widest acclaim and so it is my 2008 Photo of the Year.

Title: Hopperesque
Taken: National Portrait Gallery, Washington, D.C.
Date: June 19, 2008

In terms of my favorite entries of 2008, I liked these two: Violation? and Ode to Fall. I also enjoyed several serials I did about Richmond, Virginia; Washington's Cherry Blossom Festival; the Pentagon 9/11 Memorial; and a trip I took to Washington State.

In addition to my photo of the year, there are a few others that turned out well in 2008. I've included them in a slideshow below, along with a little Pink Martini to accompany them.

Happy New Year everyone! Here's to 2009 and another year of great photography.

Fabulous choice. Since I'm a NGA groupie, I liked the setting as well. And I loved the slideshow. We need to chat about that. The PM song was a new one for me. (Check it. It stopped in the middle) What a fabulous collection of outstanding photos you have here. You should be very proud of yourself!

VJ: Thanks! The next time you're here, let's go to the NGA together. I love this museum and can never get enough of it (or the National Portrait Gallery and the American Art Museum. Love both of those, too.)

Re: PM -- I failed to time the music to the slides, so it ends about 2/3 of the way through the show. Must find a longer PM piece... Hm.

P.S. OTOH = On the one hand / On the other hand. Hey! Maybe I should make that a Two Things Challenge! :-)

Lucy: Bwahahaha! *Snort* Oh, too funny. Yes, it would seem gravity has taken a hold of our dear lady!

Happy New Year DC!

I think you made a great choice and your slide contains some of my favourites too. Of all you did this last year I think my personal stand out favourite was your 9/11 Memorial posts.

I can't wait to see what you have lined up for us in 2009 :)

Great choice. Give them both a cup of coffee and you could entitle the photo "Nighthawks," a la Hopper.

Happy theme day and happy new year too! Wishing you peace, joy, and prosperity in 2009.

Babooshka: Thank you! I always appreciate your comments and encouragement. Here's to more pictures in 2009. (Although, I'm already behind. I have nothing to post on Friday. Yikes! Must get out and take some pictures ASAP.)

VJ: Wow! That is art overload! I may be doing the same thing with my sister on Friday, though. It's been a while since I've been downtown to see a museum, I'm quite looking forward to it!

Buck: Welcome! And thanks!

Marley: Thank you, as always, for your kind words! I seem to recall that you liked the 9/11 series and I'm glad. Made all of that emotion worthwhile. Cheers to you and Phoebe for a prosperous new year!

Mo: Thanks! And hear, hear!

CIB: Wouldn't that make it perfect? Maybe next time, I'll nip over to the cafe itself and grab a few cuppas and ask any bench sitters to pose for me. I wonder if I could get the museum to dim the lights a bit, too?

Arlene: Thanks! I love this picture and the response it's received.

Biting Midge: Welcome! Thanks for poking 'round a bit. Come back often and make yourself at home. Happy New Year to you, too!

Your main shot needs to be in a photo book. I really enjoyed the slideshow also. I remember the emotional impact of your 9/11 Memorial. & you know my favorite. What a fantastic year of photography you've had, always made more complete by your text. I wish you a very Happy 2009 and many more terrific photos.

Maya: The little Bug was part of a Two Things Challenge back in February. Here's the link.

Tash: Thank you! I have a really good year, photography-wise. I hope it continues into 2009. Speaking of your favorite, I mailed it out on Monday. Hope you have it by now!

Yes, very Hopperesque and a wonderful choice for the best of the best. You've produced a great body of work in 2008, DC. Thank you for sharing what you learned along the way . . . it has given me pause to reflect on my years work as well. I'll be looking forward to seeing your 2009 posts.
