This week's 2 Things Challenge was Sun / Shadow. Thankfully, we're moving out of winter and into spring. Put another way, the days are getting longer and the shadows are getting shorter!

I had so many pictures to choose from that already existed in my files, including a really, really cool picture of National Cathedral, but I decided to actually go out and find new subjects to fit this challenge and here they are: my interpretations of Sun / Shadow!

The Force...

Luuuuuke... I'm your faaaaaaatherrr...

Today's entry is for my cousin Karl's son, Kelten. Apparently Kelten is a HUGE Star Wars fan. If memory serves me correctly, when we were kids, my brother and sister and I, Karl, his older brother Peter, and our cousins John and Arlene all went to see Star Wars: Return of the Jedi in some theater in Salt Lake City. (I can see the theater in my minds' eye, but I can't remember where it is.) Karl, as I recall, was a pretty big Star Wars fan. It would seems he's passed that fan-love on to his son.

This is a bobblehead Darth Vader I picked up the other night at Target. My original plan was to mount it on the dashboard of my car, but I haven't gotten 'round to that so I brought it into the house the other day. Last night, I set it up in the window ledge, turned off all the lights, got out my laser pointer, and starting messing with time exposures. This is one of the images I got out of my goofing around. The backdrop is the tree in the backyard with light supplied by the street lamp in the alley. The tower to the right is one of the Metropolitan Police Department's dispatch towers.

Sunrise

I was up early this morning, reading my favorite blogs and looking at the work of my favorite photographers. Then I noticed this warm glow working its way across the blinds here in my home office. So, I grabbed the camera and my tripod and snapped a few pictures of the sun rising as seen through my shades.

Today dawned brutally cold. It's only 23 degrees out and the high is expected to be around 30. Fortunately, this bone-breaking, mind-numbing cold won't last long. By Monday, it's suppose to in the 60s. The only upside to the cold: it's clear and sunny out. As long as I can see the sun, I can handle the cold.

Afternoon

I made it! Posted a picture every day for a month. Wasn't as hard as I thought it would be, though I did miss writing meaningful information and linking it to maps. (That's actually the part that is the most work. Taking the pictures is easy. Getting the facts straight or even finding information is the challenging, time-consuming part.)

As a wrap up to this month-long venture, I give you... the view out of my home office window Wednesday afternoon. I'm heading out on a photo safari with my siblings later this afternoon. I'm hoping to return with some good pictures of Union Station, Capitol Hill, and anything else we can find to shoot between 3:00 and sunset!
