Cordelia Confidential: Family Edition

My 95-year old grandmother, Mrs. Chloris May Kincaid

After enjoying a jaunt through Yosemite, we hit the road again and made it to Cordelia, CA, by 7:30 or so. My 95-year old paternal grandmother lives in Cordelia in a little two bedroom house that she and my grandfather moved into in the 1970s. You may recall that a week or so ago, we were in Coleman and Glen Cove, TX. My grandmother was born and raised in Glen Cove and I featured pictures here of the farmland she grew up on. The painting below shows that land and the farmhouse. Go here to compare it to how the land looks now.

It was nice seeing my last living grandparent and hearing some more of her stories. For 95-years old, Gram's doing pretty damn good!

Lovely post. Did you know that there was a painting almost identical to your photo when you took it? if not, that was just plain spooky!

Lucy: Thanks!

Marley: Thank you. Yes, I did know there was a painting. The painting is based on a photo my father took in the 1960s and then my grandmother had a painting done of the photo. When I was in Texas and went looking for Peanut Ridge, I had the painting in my head as a point of reference. Pretty cool, huh?

What a strong woman to have lived through almost a 100 years of whatever the world threw at her!

It is fascinating to me to see what people choose to hang on their walls. Something they don't mind seeing every day of their lives.

Cool.

Oh mi gosh that is so kewl that you got to spend time not only visiting her history in Texas, but then visiting with her. Awesome pictures.

The pictures of the Callistemon are kewl. I've not seen any for years. I don't even think I saw any on my last trip to CA.

Phoebe: My grandmother remembers the first time she saw an airplane, which is one of my favorite stories. She also left a pair of knitted slippers out for each of us on our pillow. If you're ever out this way, let me know and I'll set you up for a visit with her.

Cele: It was pretty cool! And what is callistemon?

Callistemon - bottle brush the red "flowered" bush you had in your pictures.

I like that last picture of her in the living room with the album and the painting behind her. What's with all the swing pics? You should add one of the ones I took of you swinging in it!

Cele: Ah. Perfect! Thank you.

Maya: I like that last picture, too. As for the photos of me swinging, I'd gladly post them, but I think they're on your camera... ;-)
