Along the banks of the Potomac River at the foot of Georgetown are several boating clubs and rental outfitters. Some, like the Potomac Boat Club, are private. Others, like Jack's Boathouse, rent kayaks and canoes to the public. Several universities in the area have rowing teams and their crews have boathouses on the river, including Georgetown, George Washington University, and American University.
Other clubs and crews include Capital Rowing Club, DC Strokes, Thompson's Boat Center, Georgetown Day H.S., Georgetown Visitation, Gonzaga College H.S., Sidwell Friends, and Woodrow Wilson H.S., to name just a few.
If you don't want to row, you can sit on Jack's dock and enjoy
the view of the river, Key Bridge, Roosevelt Island, and Virginia on the
opposite bank of the Potomac.

A nice set of photographs for the post. I liked the last picture. I would sit there.
I think I will join Abraham and sit at Jacks.
I like the first picture. Very colourful and nice lines.
Meet you at Jack's. Great colorful shots today.
AL: Thanks! Sitting there would be nice. Think I'll join you and Jim. Will your lovely wife be joining us?
Jim: Sign me up, too!
Mo: Thanks! Ant-eye view seemed like the best perspective for this.
Virginia: I'll be there!
As a former D.C. resident and native, I have really been enjoying your site. Great series in this post.
I love the boats. So colorful. And the chairs look so inviting. Don't you just want to sit there and check out the view?
BTW, hello from beautiful BC, Canada!
FLDP: Thanks! I try to make it a place that people who've lived here will enjoy and people who haven't visited will learn more about our nation's capital.
Maya: I LOVE British Columbia! Hope you're having a great time!
Great series of shots! I would join Abe and sit, but I really like the color of the first photo! Nicely caught!
Kelly: Thanks! Looks like we've got quite a party going now. Who's bringing the beverages?
I've got some very drinky California wine, just perfect for riverside sitting. 8^) I remember seeing the crews rowing on the Potomac on my one trip to DC. We stayed at the Holiday Inn in Rosslyn, and walked across the bridge to Georgetown one day. You never see that kind of rowing out west. But kayaks? I took a short kayaking course on the American River. But that was a looooong time ago. I'll take the orange chair please.
USElaine: When I lived in the Bay Area, we use to go kayaking on the Gualala River, as well as Elkhorn Slough down near Monterey. I love kayaking.
I think crew rowing is a very East Coast sport, like Lacrosse, and is inherited from our British ancestors. I'm surprised we don't play cricket out here.
I've always wanted to be a part of a rowing team. Ah well, those adirondak chairs look too comfortable to pass by without sitting for a while.
This looks like so much fun- and love the colors in the first one and second one- the green doors and the red geranium(?)- these are nice! I'd love to be able to sit there...
Oh I love these! Especially the top two. Great shots! I am going to join in with these challenges again...I lost my mojo for a while there!
Rob: I think I'd like to learn how to row, too, but then I look at the boat with their narrow seats and high clearance and I picture myself tanking. A lot.
Prof: Come on over! The humidity's been low this week--less than 50%--so it shouldn't be too terribly unpleasant.
Lisa: Hi! I'm glad you're going to do the challenges again. We've missed you and your wonderful contributions! Hope you're having a pleasant winter. Could you send some of that cool air our way?
