Colorful kayaks for rent at Jack's Boathouse on the PotomacAlong the banks of the Potomac River at the foot of Georgetown are several boating clubs and rental outfitters. Some, like the Potomac Boat Club, are private. Others, like Jack's Boathouse, rent kayaks and canoes to the public. Several universities in the area have rowing teams and their crews have boathouses on the river, including Georgetown, George Washington University, and American University.
The members-only Potomac Boat Club next door to Jack's Boathouse.Other clubs and crews include Capital Rowing Club, DC Strokes, Thompson's Boat Center, Georgetown Day H.S., Georgetown Visitation, Gonzaga College H.S., Sidwell Friends, and Woodrow Wilson H.S., to name just a few.

If you don't want to row, you can sit on Jack's dock and enjoythe view of the river, Key Bridge, Roosevelt Island, and Virginia on the
opposite bank of the Potomac.

I've got some very drinky California wine, just perfect for riverside sitting. 8^) I remember seeing the crews rowing on the Potomac on my one trip to DC. We stayed at the Holiday Inn in Rosslyn, and walked across the bridge to Georgetown one day. You never see that kind of rowing out west. But kayaks? I took a short kayaking course on the American River. But that was a looooong time ago. I'll take the orange chair please.
USElaine: When I lived in the Bay Area, we use to go kayaking on the Gualala River, as well as Elkhorn Slough down near Monterey. I love kayaking.
I think crew rowing is a very East Coast sport, like Lacrosse, and is inherited from our British ancestors. I'm surprised we don't play cricket out here.
I've always wanted to be a part of a rowing team. Ah well, those adirondak chairs look too comfortable to pass by without sitting for a while.
This looks like so much fun- and love the colors in the first one and second one- the green doors and the red geranium(?)- these are nice! I'd love to be able to sit there...

Rob: I think I'd like to learn how to row, too, but then I look at the boat with their narrow seats and high clearance and I picture myself tanking. A lot.
