Welcome Mat in Snow ReliefToday's entry is sort of a continuation on the previous day's monochromatic take on winter. It snowed here yesterday morning and afternoon, followed by sleet last night. For most of you, that's hardly news. Around here, it's all the news and then some. It doesn't take much--we only had four inches in the city--but snow cripples the D.C. area. Everything just sort of shuts down for a few days and gets kind of quiet. The snow and ice is a pain, but the quiet part is nice.
Where the Eave EndsHere are just a couple of shots of the snow from the warmth of my house. If the roads aren't too bad later today, I'll try to get out to take some pictures of D.C.'s more iconic images in the snow. But don't hold your breath. My car needs new tires, so I may just be staying put!

That top photo is just astounding.
I couldn't stop looking at it, the pattern, the delicacy of the snowflakes (when enlarged) and I can't decide if that's the true color or it black and white (the grey is so subtle). Really wonderful.

Virginia: I can't remember the last time I wore on t-shirts in the winter. Oh yeah. Wait. I remember. When I lived in California. Hm. As for the welcome mat, it was just there, screaming to be photographed. I didn't even have to leave the house. I just opened the door, bent over, and snapped away!

I say stay at home! Enjoy a snow day. How many more do you think we'll have in our lives where we can stay at home to be warm and carefree, snuggled up with a blanket and a book, with the window panes frosty and coated with snow? If you are lucky, a dozen more.

I thought it was just in the UK that a dusting of snow shuts the place down but now I know different! I love snow, its my favourite weather. Everything looks so nice and clean, and all is quite. Lovely.
Debi: For purposes of your image, yes. Yes, I was wearing my pajamas! As long as I don't have to go out in the snow or drive in it, I love it. Another advantage of working for yourself! :-)
Marley: I grew up in Utah, so snow days were completely foreign to me before I moved here. There are no snow days in Utah. You suck it up and deal. But here? Oy. It can dust and they'll shut everything down. It's crazy. Even our new president thinks so. Check this out. Of course, given how crappy people drive around here, closing everything is a good idea, so I guess this is going to be my first disagreement with Pres. Obama. Hope it's my last! :-)
Nice snow shots! We had snow a couple of days ago as well, but by the time I made it outside, it had melted. Just as well after our big snows around Christmas. The people of Seattle are mostly over it!

As much as I complain about winter, I do love that feeling just as the weather is ending, when everything is still and calm.
