Repository III

Mosaic of Minerva outside the observation balcony above the library's Reading Room.

Returning to the Library of Congress, here are a few more photos from this beautiful building. I have nearly 100 other photos I could cull from and could easily post another 20 or 30 pictures of this magnificent building, but I'm going to end with this entry as there are other things I want to post in the next week. For example: information and pictures of the new Capitol Visitor's Center, photos from a two day trip I made this week to Williamsburg and Jamestown, some new strangers, and just stuff from around the neighborhood.

More art over a doorway. Also, notice the detail work in the lintel. Gorgeous!

Even the elevators are art.

Thanks to everyone who has commented on my LOC series. I'm glad you've enjoyed it. If you ever visit Washington, make sure it's on your list of absolute must-see places!

Detail in the marble carvings and a series of putti on one of the grand staircases.

I was trying to figure out if I've been to the Library of Congress but I'm sure I haven't seen this beauty. This will be a must see for me, stunning.

Andrea: If your sister lives near the Eastern Market, you're within walking distance of the Library. When you come to visit her this spring (you're still planning to do that, right?), you should definitely take a few hours and go over to see it. It's something else!

Nessa: It is quite elegant! I'm glad you enjoyed these photos. I have many more I could post, but I should probably give some air time to other things I've seen and done recently.

Wow! Absolutely amazing. So sacred and beautiful. Wow! I like your composition of the top photo with the stairs as well.

Perfect pictures, I think you are really talented! In these days of digital cameras, everybody believes he is a "professional". They put some "sepia effect" or make black&white picture from a strange angle and think it's art. As a Toronto realtor I am dealing with many part-time photographers, but to find somebody who is reliable and able to make a good job is really hard...
Take care and many more gorgeous pictures!

Elli: Thank you! I try really hard to approach what I'm photographing as a challenge. As a result, I can often be found hugging walls, lying on the ground, and swinging from the chandeliers trying to get a unique angle! At the very least, I'm having fun!
