Winter's Kiss

Winter's Kiss : Hydrangea

I love hydrangeas and there are a ton of them in my neighborhood. Apparently many of them are planted around here, because a child or grandchild gave them to someone special as a Mother's Day gift. Most of them are bought at the local Safeway on Georgia and Van Buren. Eventually, they find themselves transplanted in yards and gardens and grow to be large, colorful bushes of pink and blue and purple and green. In the winter, they mute their pastels and turn brown, as in the macro shot above. Even in their dormancy, they're beautiful.

Do not steal flowers! Although, at this time of year, who'd want to?

This sign made me smile. Sadly, in the spring, when this flower bed and many like it throughout the neighborhood are in full, resplendent bloom, there will be some who think they are entitled to pluck a flower from someone's private property as they stroll past. Hence, the sign. Right now, though, I don't think there's much risk of anyone taking anything.

VJ: I just realized you posted similar pictures on Wednesday. Great minds think alike, eh?

Maya: Damn! You saw right through me. Guess I'll have to take them back. As for your word verification, I don't know what to do with that.

Brian: Well, the next time I need a partner in crime or someone to take dead flowers off my hands, I'll give you a shout!

By total fluke I posted hydrangeas today too! Although ours are in bloom ofcourse.
I like your observation with the sign and the story to go with the amount of hydrangeas.

Go well!

Lisa: Seems a bunch of us are posting hydrangeas all over the place! Virginia of Birmingham Daily Photo posted some winter hydrangeas the other day, too! I've been to look at yours and they are beautiful.

Go well!

My, that's mean...there surely are flowers sold around so why pluck it from someone's yard? Anyway for now, there aren't any, yet spring is coming so they better not remove the sign.

Mirage: Yes, there's a couple of florists not far from this garden, but why pay for something when you can steal it instead? This isn't the only house in the neighborhood that has a sign up like this. Last spring, I met several home owners who complained of flower snatching. The woman who grows the double daffodils featured in the eighth picture in this entry said told me people would walk into right up into her garden and take her double daffodils while she was watching through the window of her home office!!
