The List is Life...

the list is life

A week or so ago, as I was out walking along Pennsylvania Avenue taking in the sights and preparations for last week's inaugural, I stumbled upon this tiny piece of graffiti. I was so struck by its simplicity that I had to take a picture. It made me think about my dreams. Our dreams. The interconnectedness of dreams.

Then it made me think about Hume's guillotine--the meta-ethic theory about what is and what ought to be. What is is harsh and real. What ought to be is wide open to possibility.

I've also been thinking about human relations and how interconnected we are.

I'm still thinking. What are you thinking?

P.S. If you can name the source of today's title, I'll send you a signed copy of any picture of your choice from my blog.

Would that be Mr. Lincoln's statue in the Lincoln Memorial? Your photo today is very thought provoking. I see it as there is hope for the world yet. Your blog is so enjoyable. Love all your photos on here.

I'm thinking I need to wake up before I try and give you and answer. Love the little figures on the curb. How good of you to spot it and capture it.

Schindler's list?

Denise: In the the masthead of the blog? Yes, that's correct. Lincoln at Sunrise is the title. I'm glad you enjoy my blog. I appreciate your visiting and commenting!

Virginia: I'm glad I was looking down or I would have missed it!

Lois: You're right! If you'd like a photo, email me (my address is in my profile) and I'll be happy to send you a picture of your choice!

I like it. When I was in Long Beach, near my house on Bellflower there was a whole poem about a snake in the sidewalk...continuing on from start to finish. If I ever get back there, I'm going to take pictures of each snake carving and post them with the poem. There's also a cat one and a bird. Fun graffiti I likey.

Wow the graffiti looks as if it was meant to be there...making it really damn hard to label it graffiti.

A couple of things came to my mind when I saw this. First, it reminded me of Keith Haring. It seems to me there were similar stick men images used in a Sherlock Holmes story. Finally, the artist here sure can draw a mean cirlcle.

I love the simplicity too... a great find. Thanks.. Schindlers List, I think.

Hmm...What am I thinking...???

I like it. But thinking about how we are all interlinked makes my head hurt! It always amazes me that you can talk to someone you have just met and soon discover you both know the same person, if you see what I mean.

I was once at the airport on the Greek island of Rhodes, leaving after a holiday, and I saw someone that used to be a customer where I work! She had moved to Rhodes and was taking her daughter to the airport. Also someone I work with was at the whispering gallery, at the top of St Pauls Cathedral in London, when she heard sombody call out her name. It was a person she had worked with many years ago. What are the chances?! High, I guess!

Lucy: Thanks! The snakes in Long Beach sound really neat. Hope you get back there soon. Perhaps it's time for you to visit your friend--the other Janet?

Cele: I know, right? It almost looks like intentional art or something.

Wayne: Keith Haring's work is amazing! And I agree. Each stick figure looks a little too perfect. But, for the sake of my dreaming, we're going to pretend that isn't the case! ;-)

Sherry: Thank you! Yes, Schindler's List is correct. So, what are you thinking? (By the way--Mukilteo rocks! I once watched the sunset there with someone special.)

Marley: Interconnectedness can seem random. Other times, it seems like fate. I like to think it's more of the latter!

Maya: Would college students count as kids? George Washington University is in the surrounding blocks. I'm with you, though. I'd like to think someone under the age of 10 drew this.

I'm thinking Schindler's List. But I may be late to this party. Love this simple, yet thought provoking graffiti.

Rob: Correct-a-mundo! Join Lois and Sherry in patting yourself on the back. Let me know if you'd like a picture (and you, too, Sherry. I meant to say that earlier and forgot) and I'll ship one your way. As for the graffiti, cool, isn't it?
