Reflections

In a parking lot : Arlington County, Virginia

Rainy reflections on a Monday night...

Last night, I was out in the States helping my sister with a project. On the way home, I had a call on my cell phone. Not wanting to drive on rain-slick roads in a car that probably needs a new rack of wheels, I pulled into the parking lot of IHOP* on Rte. 50 in Arlington to take the call. It was everything I could do to not go in and order a plate of pumpkin pancakes. Instead, I sat in the car and chatted. In the end, it was probably better for my waistline! This was the view out of my passenger-side window.

Washington Monument in the rain...

Eight miles later, I pulled into West Potomac Park and snapped this picture of the Washington Monument and the city-lit sky. There's not as much reflection going on in this one, obviously. I just liked the light. After that, I put the camera away and safely drove home!**

* International House of Pancakes, for those of you living outside the U.S. It's an 24/7 breakfast franchise.
** For those of you who worry about me driving and shooting, I'm just sayin'.

There's your next winner for 2009. Too gorgeous for words. None exist. I never think that monument a big deal till I see a photo like this. Very beautiful.

Great night shots and fantastic reflections!

My point exactly that I made the other day. Photographers take a long time getting anywhere cause they are always pulling over for photos. Nice to know you are kicking that nasty habit of driving and shooting at the same time. Good girl! I like em both but the bottom one is a stunner. I just made up that word too.

I really like the colors in those shots.

Brilliant. I tried taking a rainy reflection picture the other day, and it wasn't anywhere near as good as this! (though it may yet make it onto the blog anyway)

Lucy: Really?! I guess I'm going to have to come back to this picture in a few days or a week or two, because I thought it was only okay. (Of course, most of the time I think my photos are only okay, but others really groove on them. I, obviously, should leave my opinion out, shouldn't I?) :-)

JM: Thanks! I like the reflections, too!

VJ: It takes me twice as long to go places and see things if I schlep my camera along. I think it annoys my non-camera-schlepping friends, to be honest! LOL. Sadly, I wish I'd had my camera along today when I was out running to Costco. The clouds were SPECTACULAR and I don't have a single picture of any of them! :-(

Eric: Thanks. I'm pleased with how well the colors turned out, too!

Jackie: This was pure luck. Especially since it was a night shot. I usually use a tripod, but in this case, I just held up the camera and shot. It turned out better than I thought it would.

Great shots! I saw some potential photo subjects in the rain in my neck of the woods last night but my camera was high and dry at home.

Beautifulshots! Our cities take on a whole new light at night. (Was that a punn? Not intended, sorry).

I do worry about you driving and shooting and talking on cell phones and such while driving. I'm glad you pulled over. :-) And, those are some mighty fine reflections shots!

Bernie: But of course it was. Because it works better that way, right? :-) I had the same problem yesterday. Out running an errand. Gorgeous clouds. Desire to take pictures. Alas, camera at home on desk. Boo.

Rob: Pun or no, it's true, isn't it? Sometimes, I think I prefer Washington at night. It's so much prettier all lit up. (And there's less traffic, which makes it nice, too.)

Prof: Thanks!

Maya: Just trying to make the world safer, one less cell-phone-using driver at a time! (And now I'm really wishing I'd ordered a plate of pumpkin pancakes to go. That sounds so yummy right now.) Besides, the thought of you and Virginia chewing me out is more than I can bear! ;-)
