Kind Gestures

Gifts of gratitude from friends, for whom I am grateful!

I love getting together with friends and helping other people, when I can. On Sunday, I had a couple of friends over for dinner. One of them thoughtfully chose several fall gourds at the local farmer's market in her D.C. neighborhood and brought them as a gift. They're sitting on the dining room table and remind me daily of the delightful person she is.

Then yesterday afternoon, a box arrived unbidden on my doorstep. A few weeks ago, I helped a friend with some work advice. She sent this lovely box of chocolates from a local chocolatier in her distant city as a thank you. I love the color of the box and the ribbon and thought they complemented the gourds nicely, so I snapped a picture. (Oh, yeah, and the chocolates are divine.)

Gestures of gratitude seem to be a dying act and yet nothing is more delightful than a simple thank you note or similar action. Makes you feel all warm and special and grateful for good friends and kind people. As my late grandfather use to say, when people would ask if they could do anything for him after he'd been helpful to them, "Just a few kind words, ma'am. Just a few kind words."

If you visit this blog, thank you! I appreciate it.

Well said my friend. Friendship is indeed a gift and one we sometimes take for granted. There is nothing sweeter than a few kind words.

Well, I thank you for showcasing your corner of this big world!

They look like good chocs! What good friends you've got. I bought some gourds the other day but I prefer the green twisty one you've got.

I've added my email address to my profile. I did wonder why I wasn't getting any emails to my special blog address! Thanks, in anticipation :)

VJ: Exactly!

Rob: It's my pleasure.

Marley: They are good chocolates! We could swap gourds if you like. (And now, in a senior moment, I can't remember what the hell it was I was going to email you this morning. How sad is that? Well, give me an hour or two. I'll figure it out.)

I can't help but point out that one of those gourds looks slightly pornographic. Clearly, I am not the kind of friend most people dream of having. (Except 14 year old boys, perhaps - which might explain my marriage.)

I love getting things from friends. Especially in the mail! Giving them is just as good. :-)

NG: I can lend you that gourd, if you'd like. :-) (Clearly, I'm not the kind of friend most people dream of having either. Perhaps that why you and I get along so nicely!)

Maya: I agree!

That's lovely! And here you've given them to us as a fine image, in turn.

ng: Care to explain that 14 year old boy/marriage statement? You could send this to me in email if you must, but curious minds want to know!

@Maya: only that you all see a lovely sentiment about a kind gesture in this photo and my first thought was "ooo phallic symbol." My husband would have said the same thing I'm guessing.

USElaine: I'm happy to share. If it were possible, I'd pass the chocolates around. They're soooooo yummy!

Maya: Welcome to the wonderful, wacky world that is NG's humor! (Rest assured, there is no untoward behavior going on anywhere.)

Oh, wait. Never mind. NG just explained herself.

NG: I hadn't paid too much attention to the "phallacy" of the gourds, but not that you mention it... I do see a resemblance. Hm.

How nice of your friends-- and it reflects you as a person too, ya know!

And this picture is quite fun!

Prof: Yes, it was very nice of my friends! And thank you for the lovely compliment. I try to be a nice, likable sort! :-)
