Two of my favorite Austrian products: Milka Noisette and AlmdudlerThis week's Two Things Challenge was Product / Label. If you've been reading this blog for any length of time, you know that at one time I lived in Austria. Two of Austria's finest offerings in the junk food category are these Products: Milka and Almdudler. The latter is considered the national soft drink of Austria and would be at the top of the leader board were it not for Coca-Cola holding the number one spot. Almdudler is Austria's equivalent of ginger ale. Milka is no longer an Austrian-owned chocolate company. Several years ago, Kraft Foods bought it. The particular Milka bar in this picture is the Noisette bar, meaning its filling is hazelnut creme. When I lived in Austria, I would take a fresh Kaisersemmel roll and spread American peanut butter on it, then put half a bar of Milka Noisette on the bun and have a 'semmel with chocolate and peanut butter. It was DIVINE. If I could get a decent 'semmel here, I'd do it again, but alas, American bread is lousy.
Label in a Classic Fit Brooks Brothers shirtLast week, I featured a picture of my cufflinks. This week, for Label I'm featuring labels from my Brooks Brother shirts: one classic and one fitted. I usually wear a size 12 shirt, but when I buy a fitted shirt I go up two sizes, because the darts make the shirt too snug. These are just two of my more-than-30 Brooks Brothers shirts. And lest you think I pay high-end retail, think again. I shop at the Brooks Brothers outlet in Leesburg, Virginia. Much cheaper!
My favorite Brooks Brothers shirt: A pink windowpane, French cuff, fitted shirt. Love this shirt!

I thought that drink was beer and got all excited but I do love ginger ale. The chocolate bar sounds yummy as well. I think that pink shirt would go look good with my hot pink flats! :)

Mmmm, that chocolate and peanut butter on bread sounds yummy! I'll have to try it sometime. I don't think we have that Austrian roll here, but I'll find something else.
*lol* Two very tasty things. Though I don't eat very much chocolate I like 'Almdudler'. I can't get it here, but when I'm in southern Germany or in Austria, I like it.

VJ: Nope, no beer here. But supposedly Almdudler is a great mixer in drinks and in Austria they actually mix it with some wines for a unique beverage. As for my pink shirt, I'm sure it would look STUNNING with your hot pink, suede flats! (You're going to have to post a picture of these flats one day.)
Hilda: Chocolate and peanut butter are a combination God herself created! Yummy! Find a hearty roll with a good, crispy crust and a doughy inside and you'll be on your way!
Ingrid: I try not to eat a lot of chocolate, but when I do, it's European all the way. American chocolate is nasty by comparison. As for Almdudler, even though I can get it here, it's $2.35/can (~6.00 euros/can!!!) Still, it's worth every sip!
Nothing goes together as well as chocolate and peanut butter... (except for gin and tonic) but I digress. Kraft Foods bought them ? What doesn't Kraft own these days? Nice shirts. I like mine unfitted, though. I like...need the extra room, if you know what I mean. ;)

And yes, I get the shirt size thing. I buy a 16 in fitted because I don't like snugness either! Extra room is a good thing!

I probably OD'd on Milka when I was a kid. I know I OD'd on Marzipan. Can't eat the stuff to this day!
Now I will go back & learn all about your life in Austria. Don't know if I mentioned it to you, but my husband & I lived in CH for 1 1/2 yrs in 88/89. Loved our time there & got to spend Christmas in Salzburg - talk about heavenly.
Maya: I thought you'd enjoy this one! As for marzipan, it has to be really fresh and high quality for me to eat it. Mostly, I like it in baked goods. Otherwise, meh.
Tash: Yep, I lived in the Alpine Wonderland from late 1989 - early 1991. Loved it! It's one of the most overlooked countries in Europe, I think.
