Soaring arches, beautiful stained glassWashington National Cathedral
One of the things I love most about Washington National Cathedral is the vastness of the space. I also enjoy the light coming through the stained glass. If I could, all of my southwestern facing windows in my house would be stained glass. This picture shows the grand arches of the cathedral, along with the beautiful Rose Window at the western end of the church above the entrance. The cathedral has three Rose Windows depicting: Creation (see above), Church Triumphant, and Last Judgment.

I'm loving this series you are doing on the National Cathedral. I'm learning so much, bit by bit, about our nation's capital. This shot is just gorgeous.

Lisa: Thanks. It is pretty peaceful (if you can tune out the tourists!) and graceful is a good word, too. I just love the history of this building. It looks old, but it's so new. I love that!

Beautiful rose window. We have one of these in York Minster. Love the way it casts its light on the stone causing rainbow illumination.
Some day I will visit our National Cathedral. Beautiful pic with the colored light illuminating the upper arches.

Bev: I think I totally lucked out on the lighting that day. We'd had bad winter weather for several days before. I'm glad it was sunny the day I went!
