Vastness

Soaring arches, beautiful stained glass
Washington National Cathedral

One of the things I love most about Washington National Cathedral is the vastness of the space. I also enjoy the light coming through the stained glass. If I could, all of my southwestern facing windows in my house would be stained glass. This picture shows the grand arches of the cathedral, along with the beautiful Rose Window at the western end of the church above the entrance. The cathedral has three Rose Windows depicting: Creation (see above), Church Triumphant, and Last Judgment.

I'm loving this series you are doing on the National Cathedral. I'm learning so much, bit by bit, about our nation's capital. This shot is just gorgeous.

p.s. When you get tired of posting the 2 things challenge, drop me a note on my blog and I will do it for awhile :)

I tried to comment earlier but my computer threw a tantrum...

Great photo of the inside of the cathedral. I'd love to go there myself. It's so graceful and peaceful.

Hope you're feeling better soon:)

Bobbie: Thank you! You should come for a visit. (Re: 2 Things, I'll let you know if I get tired of it. Right now I'm okay, though. How's Debi doing?)

Lisa: Thanks. It is pretty peaceful (if you can tune out the tourists!) and graceful is a good word, too. I just love the history of this building. It looks old, but it's so new. I love that!

Beautiful rose window. We have one of these in York Minster. Love the way it casts its light on the stone causing rainbow illumination.

Some day I will visit our National Cathedral. Beautiful pic with the colored light illuminating the upper arches.

Lara: It's a beautiful building indeed!

Bev: I think I totally lucked out on the lighting that day. We'd had bad winter weather for several days before. I'm glad it was sunny the day I went!

Dusty Lens: You really should make a trip this way. US Airways and NWA have direct flights from MSP to Washington National.
