Two Things Challenge: Empty / Full

Empty archways leading to the north portico
Washington National Cathedral

Empty (adjective): containing nothing; not filled or occupied.

This niche, with the bright winter sun as backdrop, seemed to represent empty. Although, I suppose you could turn it on its head and say that it's "full of light." This was taken at the bottom of the stairs leading out of the Garth and into a portico with doors going into the cathedral proper.

Full (adjective): containing as much or as many as possible; having no empty space.

This is the same niche, but shot from the top of the stairs in the portico looking back down into the Garth. I like how the arches cascades into more arches ending in the garden. This picture seems very full to me. By the same token, you could also turn it on its head and say it's empty because what's a garden without people in it?

(Not bad for someone who's still laid up with whatever gunk this is I have, so I'm using pictures I took a couple of weekends ago. These are also from Washington National Cathedral. If you haven't noticed, I'm working my way from the outside to the inside, so this won't be the last of my pictures from this beautiful structure.)

D.C. I am going for #1, and calling it empty/full as the empty space going into the full space is very beautiful to me.

I do like #2, and the cascading of the arches, but it seems a bit too busy. Maybe on a different day with different lighting it would be more to my taste.

I hope you know how much I like this contrasts series!

What a beautiful Cathedral, and what clean perfect lines. I like the empty one best, as does Bobbie, because it seems full of ethereal light, as befits a Cathedral. The other one is full, but of more solid, earthly structures lol

Bobbie: I'm glad you liked the first photo. I'm always so surprised, when I download my photos, that they turn out so well!

Lara: Glad you enjoy this series. I think you should join us!

Bev: I really enjoyed the contrasts in both of these, too. The almost blinding light versus the clean lines of the multiple arches.... It was a lot of fun to photograph.

Black and white was an excellent choice for the 2nd photo! It's very clean and well defined. I would definately want to wander up the stairs of the 1st one and see what was through there...Nice entries.
