The Nauvoo TempleAfter the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library & Museum, we traveled about two and half hours north to Carthage and Nauvoo, Illinois. The former is the site of the assassination of Mormon prophet and leader Joseph Smith and his brother, Hyrum. The latter is the town Smith and his followers established after they were run out of Missouri.

Those night shots of the temple are stunning. They really know how to make things look impressive, don't they?

Maya: Thank you! And yes, the Mormon Church definitely has a way with lighting. Their desire is to make their temples stand out as a beacon to the city, in particular, and the world, in general. When you visit D.C., I'll take you to see the D.C. Temple at night and you'll see what I mean.
