Friends

My best friend from grad school, Mary Ellen, has been in town this past week for a conference and then a little sightseeing and such. Her husband, Mike, was here as well for a few days. On Sunday, we went to see the mosaics at the National Basilica of the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.

After that, we ventured out to the States to see the Pentagon 9/11 Memorial. Then we wandered back into the city and visited some of the monuments and memorials on the west end of the National Mall, including the Lincoln Memorial.

On Thursday, I'll post photos of our visit to the new Capitol Visitors' Center and the Library of Congress.

Love this photo of Mike and Mary Ellen at the Pentagon Memorial. I like everything about it: their serious expressions, the way they are standing close together, their placement on the striped pavement, and of course the drama of the memorial.

Looks like a fun day (but cold).

Mosaics are daunting in thought so beautiful to behold.

Is that a ketch in your heckle?

Debi: I like it, too. Memorials like this have a sobering effect.

Maya: It was actually beautiful on Sunday. Mild temperatures, sunshine, blue skies. In a word: gorgeous! And yes, we had a lot of fun.

Cele: I agree. Per your word verification, I hope I'm not being heckled! ;-)
