The Wall

Vietnam Veterans Memorial and the Washington Monument

I haven't been out with my camera much in the last week or so. Today's picture is taken from my archives and is one that I didn't post when I took it earlier this year. This is the Vietnam Veterans Memorial with the Washington Monument in the background. I love this memorial for a variety of reasons, but what I appreciate most is its power to make grown men cry and the way it has quietly healed a nation.

Wow. I love the round lights leading up to the Monument! Is this the memorial created by my namesake, Maya?

Maya: Thanks! And yes, this is the memorial created by architect and artist Maya Lin. You can also read about her here.

Apparently she was part of the Confluence Project on the Snake and Columbia Rivers in Washington and she designed the Civil Rights Memorial in Montgomery, Alabama.

Lucy: Thanks!

NG: Glad you like this. I don't know why I didn't post it when I took it back in February, but there you have it.

Virginia: I have one or two others in mind for you. One of them, though, may offend the southern sensibilities and heritage of some of your neighbors, though. Let's put it this way: I have lots of pictures of a certain A.L., but no pictures of his counterpart, J.D. Just sayin'...
