Sign?

A car with Alaska plates. A sign of things to come or a fluke?

Whenever a new administration arrives in town, people from their state who want to work in various agencies move to Washington for jobs supporting the president and his/her agenda. For the last eight years, we've had a lot of folks from Texas--home state of President Bush (and defacto state of Vice President Cheney, who is really from Wyoming.)

Last night, while driving down Connecticut Avenue to get to I-66, I sat behind the car you see above you. Note the license plate. Alaska. I don't know if that's a sign of things to come or just pure coincidence, but come January we'll either start seeing lots of Illnois and Delaware plates or lots of Arizona and Alaska plates.

Just a reminder: Monday, October 6 is the last day to register to vote in Virginia and the District and Tuesday, October 14 is the last day in Maryland. If you haven't registered, get out there and get your name on the voter registration rolls so you can vote on November 4. Let your voice be heard!

P.S. Sorry for the crappy quality of the picture. I was taking it at a red light, so as not to be taking pictures while driving!

I'm inclined to think there is a connection. But who the heck would drive from Alaska to D.C. if they had enough money to own a Merc S500?

Of course they could take the ferry to Bellingham and scoot across from there.

Maybe it was Todd.

WEll I had someone from Wasilla AK reading my blog last night. Yikes, now I'm looking over my shoulder for Alaska State Troopers! Wayne has a valid point and US, I thnk First Dude is too busy standing behind his woman, but who knows. DC, glad you're not shootin and a drivin.

Yup, that car is a long way from home!

I'm glad to see you are heeding our advice and not taking photos while driving! ;-)

a fluke, a fluke for sure

Yey! I love that Alaskan candidate.

In CA cell phone use was outlawed (must be hands free), but what about picture taking? Does that have to be hands free too?

Wayne: I was wondering the same thing myself. Probably a lobbyist for the ANWR project.

USElaine: If the idea of that didn't scare me, I'd laugh!

VJ: Just when I thought it couldn't get any dumber in this town thanks to Rove Cheney & Co., now there's the possibility we'll end up with a guy who, in four to eight years, could become the First Dude. What is happening to this country?!

Maya: I'm trying to be good about leaving the camera in the bag while I'm driving. But it's haaaaaaard. :-(

B.C.: I hope so.

Tash: We have a hands-free law for cell phones in D.C., too, (though it's hardly ever enforced) but there's nothing on the books about being hands-free while taking pictures. Although, I did have a cop wave a no-no-no finger at me several weeks ago.

hmmmm, you've said a mouthful with that photo. Unfortunately, I've missed my deadline to vote absentee in Hungary. Maybe not altogether accidentally - I simply could not vote for either candidate with a clear conscience.

Our elections are November 8th. I'm voting but not for either major party as they are as bad as each other! I'll go GREEN of course and atleast my concience will be clear!

Anyway...Tomorrow is my photo blogs 1st bday and I will have a little somehting there for you. Please come by and collect it:)

How many people in Alaska drive a Mercedes? They don't seem suited to the roads and weather. Well, maybe some oil barons tooling around Anchorage.

Isadora: I'm sorry to hear you didn't vote. When you don't feel like either candidate represents your voice, it's hard to choose. I've felt the same way in elections past and have been tempted to take my ballot, hang it on a wall, throw a dart at it and see where it sticks. Whoever gets it on the pointy end, gets a check in their box. Perhaps you should try that in 2012!

Lisa: I wish we had more developed parties to choose from. As it is, the Republicans and Democrats own the system with only a handful of Independents and others in local politics. We need a multi-party system in this country. Good luck with the voting on Nov. 8.

Strangetastes: I was thinking that, too. If this had been a Hummer, I'd have thought something different (like, "Oh look. Someone who supports the terrorists!") Like I said, though, my guess is, this is a highly paid lobbyist for ANWR.

Lets hope it was just a fluke!
