Benched

Benches for resting and enjoying a view of the Potomac on the
George Washington Memorial Parkway--a popular running, walking, and biking path.

Yesterday, my dad come over from the States to help me with my landscaping project. It's a damn good thing he did, too. Otherwise, I'd be nowhere near where we are this morning. We worked our tails off! So much so that this picture of these benches on the George Washington Memorial Parkway look quite comfortable. This popular running, walking, and biking path lies parallel to the Parkway and runs from just above Washington all the way to Mt. Vernon--14 miles from the capital city to the plantation of America's most beloved leader and first president, George Washington.

But, no rest for the wicked, as they say. It's 6:00 AM as I post this. Dad is on his way over again. We're going to work together until around 8:30 and then I have to bug out for a few hours. I have tickets to President Lincoln's summer cottage on the grounds of the Old Soldier's Home over near Rock Creek Cemetery. After that, it's off to the States and Tyson's Corner in Virginia where I'm attending a pen show at the Sheraton. Then it's back home to pick up where I'll be leaving off and helping Dad some more.

I'll be bringing you pictures from the cottage, the pen show, my landscaping project, and the Montgomery County Fair, as well as a new venture I'm undertaking in portrait photography, all next week!

Whew! What are you doing this weekend?

Nice photo today. Hope you and Dad get a lot done. I am interested in learning what a pen show is. Bics and ballpoints?????

This park looks so serene until your eye glimpses the trail of cars streaming by.

Sounds like you've got a fun day planned, mixed with good home improvement effort.

Pens?! If it's about writing tools, I'm addicted to them too. :)

Can't wait to see you what you come up with.

Working on art projects here, there and everywhere. Just glad to have the weekend off after a busy crazy work week.

Cracks me up that you go to "The States" when leaving town. It's great that you have a dad close by to help you with a project like this!

I can't wait to see the upcoming photos. Especially the pen show!

Nice picture of the park and bench. I like pictures of park benches and have taken a few in my time in the Boston Common.

I went to the Lincoln's summer white house a few years ago on a Civil War trip I took. Can't wait to see your pictures as they were still restoring it when I was there.

I think after all that you should take a rest there- it's looks quite lovely!

And, as for me- due to temps over 100 I didn't leave my house , so far, this weekend!

Magic Eye: Your roses are gorgeous! Thank you!

VJ: Ah, pen shows. I'm actually going with a friend who is an avid collector of fine writing instruments. This is my first pen show, but I guess it's basically high-end pens and all their accessories. I'll know more tomorrow and will post pictures as soon as I can.

Andrea: You're right about the facade of serenity. It's actually kind of noisy, which is a bit disconcerting when you're out walking. Come on over and join us for the pen show. We're going Sunday morning.

Maya: Well, I figure since D.C. is taxed without representation and we're not a state, I'm leaving an enclave and visiting the rest of the country, i.e. "The States"! Silly, I know, but it's always good for a laugh.

Clueless: The Lincoln Cottage was pretty cool! Unfortunately, 99% of my photos are exterior shots because interior shots aren't allowed. Boo. But, I'll post something soon.

USElaine: Sounds like you had a lovely day. Especially that part where you had a nap. I wanted one of those. And berries? YUM!

You are lucky to live in a place with so much to see and do! We either sit on the front porch or sit on the back porch. Sometimes we'll walk down to the school playground to really shake things up!

Can't wait to see the landscaping. I hope there is a great shot of the handsome man who is helping you:)

Arlene: That handsome man was lookin' pretty haggard and dirty yesterday! He probably could have used a bench like this after all that dirt digging and shifting.

Blimey, you had a lot on this weekend! The weekend is nearly over for me. I've been working and recovering from the effects of too much drink at a party last night! I should know better by now!

Marley: Blimey sums it up well! And I didn't make it to the county fair. I may have to do that on Wednesday evening. Still, it was a fun, full weekend. Hope yours was restful.
