Stormy Weather...

The sky before yesterday's thunderstorms.
This is not a sepia toned photo. This is actually what the sky looked like.

I know, I know. I said I was cutting back on my postings, but I couldn't pass this up. Summer brings with it late afternoon and early evening thunderstorms and rain. The last couple of days have been no exception. Normally, the skies get very dark and threatening, but yesterday evening, they were what I can only describe as apocalyptic orange. This is what the sky looked like yesterday. It was kind of freaky, to be honest.

Double rainbow over Washington! This is the view from the street I live on, looking southeast.

Then this evening, we had some thunderstorms that produced a power outage and that brought folks outside onto their porches. Smart people because the result was this treat: a double rainbow! This was the best I could do in the short amount of time it graced us, but I wanted to share the wonder and beauty of it.

I'm glad you posted these shots; they are gorgeous.

Both great shots! The first one looks more like there is a fire in the vicinity. I love how the rainbow in the second one mirrors the colors in the buildings below. Beautiful!

I agree that the orange sky was freaky- in the thumbnail, I thought something was on fire!

You're the third one in CDP who saw a double rainbow this week! Now I'm feeling all pouty because I've never even seen one in my entire life! ;P

wow, what a rainbow!

Fénix: Thanks! I'm glad I stepped outside, otherwise I would have totally missed this.

Maya: Thank you. Sunday's stormy weather was really freaky. I remember looking out the window, seeing that yellow-y orange-y reddish sky and saying "Whoa..." As for the rainbow, it was quite lovely.

Hilda: I'll have to check out the other double rainbows. Given the storms you've had in the Philippines this week, your country could use a double rainbow!

Lara: Wow is right!

Isn't it funny how weird (scary) weather makes for a sense of community? Ok, that and the electricity going out.

P.S. Congrats on being an official City Daily Photographer!

it is fun to see the perspective from all about the city...

the rainbow was not visible from my house
good thing I stalled and snapped some shots on my way home

Debi: Weather has a weird way of bringing us together, that's for sure! I'm having fun participating in CDPB.

Gwadzilla: It has been fun. There are some great photos out there. I love the one on your blog with the bicyclist in it!

Wow! I guess I should have gone outside yesterday. We just watched it from the window and didn't see the rainbow.

NG: I wouldn't have seen it if I hadn't gone outside to pick up some trash that had blown into my yard. When I did go out, my neighbor pointed it out to me. Glad he did!

Holy, moly this rainbow pic is to die for and the stormy sky image is daunting.

Andrea: Is that storm sky freaky?! But the rainbow is definitely cool! Glad you enjoyed these.
