Waters of Company G of the 9th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry of the Union Army. He wrote this letter on December 26, 1861 while encamped at Meridian Hill. In the letter he writes of the excellent Christmas dinner they had which was topped off by the best bread pudding that he ever had. He also mentions that he will be sending money home to his family in Elizabeth New Jersey. He will write again when he can and encourages his family to write to him. In May of 1862 he fought in the battle of Drury's Bluff just outside Richmond. He was captured and sent to Andersonville prison camp in Georgia where he died on Sept. 11,1864. I think I would like to visit the park.Don Leamannoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2229381101096636687.post-88642145553622664062008-09-22T04:23:00.000+02:002008-09-22T04:23:00.000+02:00Anon: It is a lovely park. It really wasn't that bad back then.

I visit there now from time to time and appreciate it for its beauty.

I buy my pot elsewhere now.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2229381101096636687.post-64154476608076490772008-06-18T11:55:00.000+02:002008-06-18T11:55:00.000+02:00Maya: I agree. Seems education, the arts, and parks always get the short end of the funding, while defense, law enforcement, and earmarks get all kinds of money.Janet Kincaidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01396294382570650966noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2229381101096636687.post-41136649325553981542008-06-18T04:41:00.000+02:002008-06-18T04:41:00.000+02:00What a beautiful park!
