Modestes

Modest: Portraits and Stories of Women in the Middle East :
Alexander Boulet, Photographer : Geneva, CH

Currently, there is a temporary exhibit of photos by the late photojournalist Alexandra Boulat on display at the Museum of the International Red Cross/Red Crescent titled Modestes: Portraits et Histoires de Femmes au Moyen-Orient. It features photos of women in the Muslim world and is quite interesting. If you live in or near Geneva, be sure to check it out. It's free.

This sounds like an interesting exhibit. I wish I was there to see it. Maybe it will travel.

I like the two photos, especially the second one. It looks like she is really troubled and in deep thought looking at that picture.

Sharon: It was rather fascinating, but perhaps a bit simplistic, in terms of the discussion about why women in the Middle East veil and whether that's a positive or a negative. Still, it was a fascinating series of photos. Hopefully it will travel to a museum near you!

CIB: Thanks! I like the second one, too. I snapped two pictures of this woman standing in front of this picture. One with her at a 90 degree, upright angle. The other, skewed slightly. It was the latter, I felt, that fit the subject better.

I love these shots of people looking at the exhibit. How people stand when looking at things is fascinating!

Maya: I hadn't thought about that, but you're right. I was just going for people interacting with the art.
